Webdesign Philosophy

• Simple, clean, effective.
  • That is what I believe in when I do webdesign. I believe that excessive graphics, flash, java, plugins, takes away from webdesigns. Too often have people and companies gone for glitz in their webpages, when what they need is information. I hate waiting for pages to download. Even on broadband there is still a wait.
• People
  • People are who I design the pages for. I don't design pages to show off my skills but to get information across to the target audience. There are many cases when flash or java is usefull, but too often it is used on main pages, and ends up overshadowing the information.
• Compatibility
  • Websites must be designed to work on any web browser. The majority of people still run Windows 98 with the original Internet Explorer. There are numerous people who still run Netscape 4. Only advanced computer users and people with recent systems run the latest web browser, and not all pages work correctly on all browsers.

Web Hosting

I don't host my own webpages, I use dreamhost as my provider. I went with them because they run the apache webserver on a secure and stable platform. Apache is the best web server, it is secure, free, and runs on any operating system. This allows me to test my work on my home systems. It also reassures me that the site will not be hacked. They have been around for 7 years, and have always run Linux, so they know what they are doing. Too often companies startup with a Linux server or a windows server and end up collapsing after a few months to a year from lack of experience. I company that has been around for 7 years is rare in the computer industry. They also keep their services and use simple, easy, and friendly.

Rates

My rates are very competitive and negotiable. I am experienced in server side programming with PHP, C++ and ASP VBScript. I am also experienced in writing code to interact with both MySQL and Microsoft SQL.

• Webhosting

• Since I do not do the actual hosting, I will setup the account and perform routine maintenance on it. My fees include the cost of the webhosting, plus 20/hr for the time i spend setting up the account and any routine maintenance that needs to be performed on it.
